Well priced convenient unit that can help keep you out of trouble - Review by david herzog
I have used the Andatech AL6000PRO Professional Breathalyser with Australian Standard on numerous occasions over the festive season and it has helped me understand my own personal drinking limits and gauge my ability to drive. On two occasions I have not driven as a result of readings provided by the unit. The relatively low cost of the unit compared to its benefits justify ownership. (Posted on 17/01/10)
Excellent product to keep you safe. - Review by Sophie
The Andatech AL6000PRO Professional Breathalyser is an excellent product. Light, compact and easy to carry with you. I have had it for a couple of weeks now and always carry it with me. Peace of mind when you have had a couple of drinks and are unsure about driving. My girlfriends use it as well, and they are all thinkng of purchasing one. Value for money product! Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
What type of batteries does it take?
A:
The AL6000PRO uses two AA sized batteries to operate.
Q:
How and where do you get the unit calibrated and what cost? I live in Hobart,Tasmania.
A:
Your breathalyser will be re-calibrated by the manufacturer, Andatech. They are based in Melbourne.
You can find information about organising a recalibration on their website here:
http://andatech.com.au/breathalyser-recalibration-service/#axzz1fjDjGbVq
It normally costs around $35 for the re-calibration process, and the turn-around is normally 4 working days.

Q:
I'm just wondering what the accuracy is? Can you give me an example of when I blow 0.040, what would it actually say?
A:
The AL6000pro's accuracy is +/- 0.010%BAC at 0.050%BAC, meaning that if you blow 0.040%BAC, your actual blood alcohol reading could be plus or minus 0.01 from 0.04, so it could actually be 0.030 or 0.050. The main reason behind this is because it is a semiconductor type breathalyser which doesn't differentiate between alcohol (it would detect + read alcohol from cologne, mouthwash, etc).
Q:
Are the mouth pieces reusable?
A:
The mouthpieces are most certainly re-useable. Just make sure they get washed between uses to prevent inaccurate readings.
Q:
It says ships in 4-6 business days, but that would make it too late for what I need. Can you ship quicker, to get one delivered to Nthn NSW in 5 business days?
A:
The status says ships in 4-6 working days as this product is actually out of stock at the moment and we will have to order more in.
Was this to go to a metro or rural area? Delivery to metro takes 1-3 working days. Delivery to rural takes 3-5.

Q:
Is this equivalent to those used by the police? I'm concerned that I may get a different (higher) reading during an RBT which could land me in hot water.
A:
The AL6000Pro is not actually equivalent to those used by the police. The Australian Standard certification simply means that it is considered to be highly accurate that, if it is callibrated appropriately, makes it suitable to be used in a court of law. Law enforcement grade breathalyzers are usually fuel-cell powered and must be approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
The AL6000Pro is not a fuel-cell powered breathalyzer, has lower accuracy (and is not alcohol-specific, meaning it'll read perfume, mouthwash, and beer just the same), and is not DOT approved.
If you were after something equivalent to police-grade breathalyzers, I would definitely recommend the Andatech Stealth Fuel Cell Breathalyser AL9000 (http://www.ozbreathalyzer.com.au/andatech-stealth-fuel-cell-breathalyser-al9000.html). This one is DOT-approved, highly accurate, and is the cheapest in the fuel cell breathalyzers range. It reads up to 0.4%BAC, gives a 4-digit reading and has 0.005 accuracy (whereas the AL6000PRO gives 0.01 accuracy). This one should be suitable for your personal use.
If you want something that gives you up to 0.5%BAC reading like those that the police use, then you can look at the Andatech AlcoSense Precision Fuel Cell Breathalyser (http://www.ozbreathalyzer.com.au/andatech-alcosense-precision-fuel-cell-breathalyser.html).
